چکیده
from Post-mortem Record (Bland-Sutton Institute, No. 228/47). Nothing abnormal was found in the heart, great vessels, or lungs. Blood clots were present in the lumen of the cesophagus, and dilated tortuous veins in the submucosa, extending from the cardia to the level of the aortic arch. A circular perforation, 5 mm. in diameter, was found in a vessel 8 cm. from the cardia. There was no-free fluid in the abdomen. The stomach and intestines were normal. The liver was finely nodular and weighed 1 2 kg.; the microscopic appearances were those of an early coarse cirrhosis. The spleen Was grossly enlarged, weighing nearly 1 kg.; microscopy revealed dilated sinuses, diffuse fibrosis, and siderotic nodules. The inferior vena cava was normal. The portal and splenic veins were much dilated and their walls calcified. A dilated vessel, 1-7 cm. in diameter, was found arising from the left branch of the portal vein. It passed into the falciform ligament and after a distance of 8-7 cm. turned upwards from the free' margin to run tortuously through the linea alba into the superficial tissues of the abdominal wall. The remaining part of the free margin contained the ligamentum teres. The vein appeared just below the tip of the xiphoid and, passing anteriorly'to the process, widened to forma thin-walled sinus 18 mm. in diameter. The sinus united with the dilated left and right internal mammary veins which ran a normal course beneath the phest wall (Fig. 2). 344 group.bmj.com on October 30, 2017 Published by http://heart.bmj.com/ Downloaded from

Background: Cirrhosis and portal hypertension influence the hepatic circulation. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of liver Doppler ultrasonography parameters in cirrhosis. Methods: This case-control study involved 118 subjects. All case subjects had biopsy-proven hepatic cirrhosis. The controls were healthy people, case-matched for age and gender. All cases and c...
متن کاملEvaluation indices of hepatitis-related hepatic cirrhosis and their relations to postoperative awakening time
Abstract Objective: To investigate the anesthesia-postoperative awakening time (AT) of hepatitis- related cirrhosis patients and their relations to grading scores, portal venous pressure (PVP), prealbumin (PA), and age, to predict postoperative AT and provide a basis for adjustment of anesthetic doses during operation. Methods: Atotal of 71 patients with hepatic cirrhosis and hypersplenism at ...
متن کاملThe role of hepatic arterial flow on portal venous and hepatic venous wedged pressure in the isolated perfused CCl4-cirrhotic liver.
In cirrhosis, hepatic venous pressure gradient is used to measure portal venous and sinusoidal pressures, as well as drug-induced decreases of elevated pressures. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of hepatic arterial flow (HAF) changes on portal venous perfusion (PVPP) and wedged hepatic venous pressure (WHVP). Normal and CCl4-cirrhotic rats were subjected to a bivascular l...

Introduction: Indian childhood cirrhosis is a chronic liver disease usually seen in paediatric age group and is unique to the Indian subcontinent. متن کاملDiagnosing and monitoring cirrhosis: Liver biopsy, hepatic venous pressure gradient and elastography.
In this review we summarize the role of liver biopsy, transient elastography and hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG) in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with liver cirrhosis. Transient elastography is useful for the non-invasive diagnosis of cirrhosis, but relevant information is lost if it is used as a dichotomous test. The development of clinically significant portal hypertension ...
متن کاملHepatic and Renal Metabolism
Hepatic cirrhosis with portal hypertension and gastroesophageal hemorrhage is a disease complex that continues to be treated by surgical portasystemic shunts. Whether or not a reduction or diversion of portal blood flow to the liver adversely affects the ability of the liver to maintain fuel homeostasis via gluconeogenesis, glycogenolysis, and ketogenesis is unknown. 11 patients with biopsy-pro...
